Closer, Blurrier

2023

Closer Blurrier is a series derivates from the concept of Driving Through The Night. In the series, five squared paintings present fragments of a single daily scene in blurriness. Various tinted and grayish colors are used in combination with a few high-key colors like cadmium red, orange, and yellow. There are a few recognizable shapes. Most are distorted rounded shapes with soft edges and subtle changes of color inside them. When viewing the five pieces together, it is noticeable that some parts occur repeatedly in the paintings, as different parts of the human shapes appear in different areas of the canvas. Some paintings are closer to the scene, while others are stepping back. It is hard to piece together the scene from the painted fragments, especially when the more zoomed-in the painting is, the more abstract it gets.
